Certification:

At the Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health and Science Charter School, we take pride in offering a robust certification program so that our students can become qualified for a career immediately after high school graduation.

More specifically, our school offers certification in becoming a CFR (Certified First Responder) and an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician).

Programs are available to 11th and 12th grade students.

Early Medical Exposure Programming Opportunities

Our institutional partner, Urban Health Plan, provides our students with a variety of exposure, experiences and support to spark their interest in the medical field:

  • 6th Grade Field Trip to Urban Health Plan

  • UHP’s Club Tia Sex Education Course provided on-site

  • Nurse Practitioner/Physician’s Assistant Shadow Experience at UHP

Be Proud! Be Responsible! Curriculum – 9th Grade Health

Through the evidence-based Be Proud! Be Responsible! curriculum, Health Educators from the Adolescent Health and Wellness Center (AHWC) at Urban Health Plan provide our 9th grade students with free sexual health education during the spring semester of health classes. The program runs for approximately 6–8 weeks.

The goal of this program is to promote healthy and responsible lifestyle choices among adolescents and to delay the onset of sexual activity by equipping students with essential knowledge and life skills through engaging, youth-centered workshops.

Partnership with CUNY School of Medicine

We are thankful to partner with CUNY School of Medicine to provide additional early medical exposure programming and support for our scholars, including:

  • High School students are encouraged and supported to apply for other medical exposure programs at CUNY School of Medicine including the Health Professionals Recruitmentand Exposure Program (HPREP) as well as the Health Professionals Mentorship Program (HPMP)
